This seaworthy pant has become an iconic design that feels fresh and new every time it it comes ashore! Part of the Navy "Crackerjack" uniform for many decades, Folkwear’s 229 Sailor Pants pattern is a revival of an original and an enduring classic. Loaded with all the elements of the original, such as the distinctive buttoned front flap closure, lace-up back eyelet gusset, back welt pocket, and inner leg godet (optional for extra flare!), these high-waisted bell bottom pants reflect the practical sensibilities of a uniform combined with a casual sophistication that remains timeless. We love the small hidden coin pocket is tucked neatly in the front waistband seam! The buttons, buttonhole stitching, eyelets, and topstitching can be subtle or a feature that stands out.

Recommended Fabrics:

Suggested fabrics: Medium- to heavy-weight woven fabric with a fairly tight weave is recommended, such as wool melton, denim, twill, cotton duck, linen, flannel, and light- to medium-weight canvas. Avoid fabric that is particularly thick to prevent bulky seams. For lining, a lighter weight fabric can be used: poplin, broadcloth, silk habotai, muslin.

Our pattern is intended to be worn by all, with unisex waist, hip, and upper thigh measurements. Sizing is based on the waist measurement, but you can easily grade between sizes to get your pefect fit. Don't forget that the back gusset provides an extra couple of inches at the waist if needed!

Notions:

-coordinating thread

-1/2" - 3/4" buttons, 12x - 16x

-35-40" ribbon, cord, or shoelace

-1/4 yard interfacing (optional)

-topstiching thread (optional)

Sizes: 30 - 42 inch waist

NOTE: To clarify the instructions and cutting layouts, the Welt Pocket (Piece I) should be cut from the main fabric if you want the welts to match the main fabric. Piece I will show on the outside of the pants.
